Creative Communities: Artists in Residence Announced

Following an Open Call, two artists have been selected to participate in three month residencies at Roscommon Arts Centre with the support of the Creative Ireland Roscommon Programme. The residencies include a fee of €2,500 and access to a studio space and the resources of the centre for a three-month period.

The artists selected are Leonora Neary & Mintesinot Wolde.

Roscommon-born visual artist, Leonora Neary has been side-stepping into the world of musical composition and its relationship to her visual work. Interested in the evocative, emotional and ethereal planes of landscape, during this residency, Leonora will explore how and to what extent our natural environs inform our sense of selves. Focusing on the inland environs of rural Roscommon, this enquiry will examine and reflect upon the many planes of landscape and their potential to infiltrate and colour our sense of who we are.

Mintesinot Wolde is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, now based in Roscommon. ”See You In the Green” is a new dance piece under development, that will be further explored during this residency. This duet will use improvised dance techniques to integrate the dancers’ culture, story and memories into the piece. The piece will be recorded and presented online as part of the 2021 programme. As part of the residency, Minte will also develop an online workshop for the public to participate in.

In line with Government Guidelines, artists will work remotely unless it is deemed appropriate (Level 3 and below) for them to be onsite.

Creative Ireland is an all-of-Government five-year initiative, from 2017 to 2022, which places creativity at the centre of public policy. Further information from and
