A dance of connection in a disconnected world
Liz Roche has taken iconic visual artist Brian O’Doherty/Patrick Ireland’s One Here Now; The Ogham Cycle as a point of departure to create I/Thou, a beautiful and compelling dance work exploring the everyday intimacies that form of connection to our surroundings and each other. One Here Now; The Ogham Cycle a nine-part series of spectacular floor to ceiling wall paintings that encapsulate O’Doherty’s career-long concerns with migration, language and identity.
To celebrate their restoration at Sirius Arts Centre Cobh in 2018, Liz Roche was commissioned to respond to this work as part of the Brian O’Doherty/Patrick Ireland Project 2018. I/Thou takes its name from one of the wall paintings that stands alone amongst the others.
Set to a newly commissioned live score by Linda Buckley, the piece is performed by a cast of exceptional dancers and musicians with the set and light design by Joe Vanek and Stephen Dodd respectively.
I/Thou is commissioned and co-produced by Cork Opera House in partnership with Sirius Arts Centre’s One Here Now: The Brian O’Doherty Project 2018 and supported by an Arts Council Open Call Award 2018 and Arts Council Touring Funding 2019.
