The 2024 tour will showcase highly acclaimed tributes to Dolly Parton , Johnny Cash , Don Williams , Patsy Cline, Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette and Kenny Rogers and new tributes to icons Hank Williams , Alan Jackson, Glen Campbell, Garth Brooks and Jim Reeves with countless other well-known singalong hit songs in this must see musical extravaganza. 📍ON A HOUSE LIKE A FIRE📍WRITTEN & PERFORMED BY MICHELLE READ 📍Friday 17th May 12pm €10📍Roscommon Arts Centre Gallery SpaceSometimes in a gesture, or in a turn of phrase, sometimes in the scent of hairspray, or glimpsed in an old photograph, a person reappears. In this evocative and moving show writer-performer Michelle Read collaborates with composer Brian Keegan, to recreate her experience of remembering her mother, Margaret. On A House Like A Fire is a mother-daughter story, but also a meditation on the nature of memory itself. Margaret lived with Alzheimers and loved to walk by the coast. She passed away in 2014. 📣SCHOOL SHOWS📣Following a nationwide tour in 2022 and a hugely succesful run at the 2023 Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, we are delighted to welcome back Roscommon Writer and Performer Julie Sharkey, with her beautiful children’s show AN ANT CALLED AMY, for four school performances over two days this May 22nd & 23rd at 10am & 12pm.This is a story about an ant called Amy (an award-winning ant I might add), her brother Andy and a Brown Spider. A story about a busy little ant who learns to slow down. Amy the ant works very hard. When she wins the Employee of the Month Award, Amy feels happiness that drives her to work even harder. But with the help of the Brown Spider, Amy finds true happiness by embracing her brother’s memory in the everyday. 📣BEALTAINE CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP SERIES WITH LOUISE G COLE 📣After the successful Lunchtime Leaves series, Louise G Cole returns to Roscommon Arts Centre this May with a special writing workshop series as part of our Bealtaine celebrations.If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a writer, this course is designed to kick-start the creativity of anyone who may not have written anything more than a shopping list or a greetings card since their schooldays. Using creative writing prompts, exercises and triggers, there will be discussion and writing time, with participants encouraged to try poetry, memoir, short stories, flash fiction, journal keeping and creative non-fiction.This interactive course is also suitable for more experienced writers who may be looking for an opportunity for further encouragement and inspiration in their creative practice.Louise G Cole is an award-winning writer who runs a popular weekly Creative Writing Group in Castlerea.
