Opening on Culture Night, 20 th September 2024, this is an opportunity to see the unique
exhibition,
TIMELINES GROWTH AND CATASTROPHE
showcasing a large 1 metre x 5 metre tapestry, conceived, designed and woven
collaboratively by eight Irish tapestry weavers, Roscommon’s Frances Crowe, Wexford’s
Terry Dunne, Wicklow’s Muriel Beckett, Cork weavers Pascale de Connick, Tish Caniffe and
Heather Underwood, Laois’s Catherine Ryan and Dublin’s Lorna Donlon all working together
collaboratively. This, the group’s third project is supported by Creative Ireland funding.
This exhibition offers a chance to explore each of the eight tapestry weaver’s distinct style
and approach as seen in their individual pieces hanging in this exhibition in conversation
with their collaborative tapestry which has been ongoing for several years.

Following the opening reception of Timelines Growth & Catastrophe on 20th September, a full day of events will offer some insight into the background of the unique work being done by this group of tapestry weavers.
11am -12.30pm | GALLERY TOUR AND ARTIST’S TALKS
2-4pm | PANEL DISCUSSION COVERING A BROAD RANGE OF TOPICS AND INSIGHTS – FROM THE GROUP’S INITIAL INSPIRATIONS IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC TO THEIR RESPONSE TO THE HORROR OF WAR AS WELL AS AN EXPLORATION OF THE DYNAMICS, AIMS AND UNIQUE CHALLENGES OF WORK EMBEDDED IN COLLABORATION.

Nicola Fletcher: UCD Virologist
Joanna Kapcrzyk: UCD Plant Scientist.
Dr Ann O’Mahony is a weaver and printmaker. In 2011, she was awarded a PhD in the History of Art and Critical Theory by Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (Atlantic Technological University) for her research-based thesis, In Search of a Language: Textile and Text in Contemporary Women’s Art. Dr Ann will launch the exhibition on the 20th and join the artists for the panel discussion on the 21st
