Roscommon Arts Centre invites applications for the 2024 Hivernal Open Call curated by Eamonn Maxwell. Artists are invited to respond to the theme of the changing seasons – in particular the transition from Autumn (Lúnasa) into Winter (Samhain), the celebration of Halloween and the fading light at this time of year. Only works of artists that reference the theme will be considered for selection. This is an open call group exhibition for artists living in Roscommon and its bordering counties – Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Offaly, Sligo and Westmeath. The exhibition will feature work by a number of selected artists and those selected will each receive an exhibition fee of €300.

Eamonn Maxwell has worked as a curator and advisor in the visual arts for over 20 years. He has curated numerous exhibitions across the world including the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. From 2009 – 2016 he was Director of Lismore Castle Arts, where he programmed significant exhibitions by leading international and Irish artists. He has been a passionate advocate for emerging artists, establishing the Emerging Artists Programme during his tenure as University Curator, University of the Arts London. Latterly he has worked a collection adviser to Arts Council of Ireland, Goldsmiths College London alongside his independent curatorial practice. .

APPLICATION DETAILS

Artists applying will:

-Be emerging/established artists living in County Roscommon or its bordering counties – Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Offaly, Sligo and Westmeath.

-Provide a 1 page proposal for outline of the work/project to be developed which references the theme outlined -Provide a statement of benefit (max 1 page) as to how you as an artist would benefit at this time from this opportunity

– Provide 5 images (max) in jpeg format (max file size 3MB) and/or 3 links to previous projects

– Submit no more than 5 works for exhibition
